The RYA offer several shorebased courses that complement water based activities. There are also a range of shorebased tests that allow you to work towards your ICC. These courses can often assist people wishing to attend high level powerboat training, instructor training and coastal cruising. At CSL we like to keep these courses relevant and fun, a high level of student involvement helps to ensure that skills are learnt correctly.

First Aid £70.00 (1 day)

This 1 day course is recognised as the best first aid training course for people who work or play, in and around the water. The course covers basic first aid including CPR and the recovery position. Special attention is also given to situations such as hypothermia and drowning. For prospective watersports instructors it will be essential that you attend a course like this one. You will be required to purchase an accompanying handbook for the course.*

Course pre-requisites - No experience is needed at this level.

Marine Radio Short Range Certificate. £70.00 (1 day)

The Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) course aims to teach students how to use VHF marine radios, including Digital Selective Calling. Digital calling and voice procedures are both practiced by students, using state of the art VHF/DSC simulators. Distress, Urgency, safety and routine calls are all practiced throughout the course. At the end of the course there is an exam for which a fee is payable to the RYA (currently £22).

Basic Navigation & Safety Course. £160.00 (2 days)
 
This basic navigation course is aimed at anyone venturing onto coastal waters who do not have any other navigational qualifications. The course provides basic training in chart-work, using chart instruments, passage planning/pilotage and also introduces students to electronic navigation (chartplotters/GPS).
The cost of the course will include the RYA student pack which contains all the basic equipment needed for this course.

CEVNI Test £20.00 (approx 45 minutes)

The CEVNI test is a theory test designed for people who wish to use powered vessels on inland waters in Europe. You will need to have a copy of the European waterways regulations.* There is no teaching involved in this test, hence the low cost, but you must ensure that you are familiar with all the regulations and symbols involved. If you need to discuss the ICC further please contact the centre.
Course pre-requisites - You must have a good knowledge of the inland water regulations.

Coastal ICC Test £20.00 (approx 45 minutes)

Whilst Carsington is an inland centre it is possible for us to assess the shorebased section of the ICC test. There is no teaching involved hence the low cost, but it is essential that you have a thorough understanding of coastal navigation and regulations. If you require any additional information about the ICC please contact the centre.
Course pre-requisites - You must hold the relevant practical assessment certificate.

Shorebased Navigation Training £50.00 (2 hours)

This navigation training is designed to assist people achieve their ICC coastal certificate. The 2 hour session can work on any aspect of the ICC, but chartwork practice is usually most critical. Please contact the centre to discuss your personal requirements. Up to 2 people can attend each session.
Course pre-requisites - You will need a chart plotter, dividers, pencil and rubber. The RYA ICC handbook is also recommended.*
