Fly Fishing at Carsington

Carsington Water fishing season will open again from Saturday 22nd March 2008. Bookings are being taken for Opening Day 2008 please call the watersports centre to book. Carsington is predominantly a brown trout fishery stocked with both small fish, to grow and larger fish of takeable size. Please note that it is fly fishing only at Carsington and there is no course fishing available.

Fly fishing at its best! Carsington Water is a stunning trout fishery situated in the heart of the stunning Derbyshire countryside.  Its natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere, crystal clear waters and stunning fish combine to make Carsington Water addictive to anglers.
Its gin clear waters are stocked with fish up to 5lb and fish are stocked weekly throughout the season.

Bank Fishing

There are 2 miles of bank fishing available at Carsington Water. This is divided in two sections. With 1.5 miles on the West bank from Millfields car park round Upperfields Bay to Fishtail Creek and Sitch Plantation and a further 0.5 miles on the East bank from Sheepwash car park along Tower bank to Long Island at Shingford Creek. For more details please ask for a "Bank Fishing Guide".

Boat Fishing

Carsington water offers some of the best boat fishing in Derbyshire and fishing from a boat is the best way to explore the water and hunt out those fantastic trout. There are 20 boats available for hire all supplied with engines, oars and an anchor. Boats can go out from 8.30am and return at sunset. It is recommended that boats should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. Bookings can be made on 01629 540478. A 10% group discount is available for groups of 10 anglers or more please ask for details when making your booking.

* Evening boats cannot be booked. If you wish to reserve an evening boat, you must pay full boat price on arrival.

Casting Lessons

Introduction to fishing with a fly

An opportunity to learn the basics of fly fishing, the course covers basic casting, knots and entomolgy. All equipment and a qualified instructor will be provided for the course. After you have learned how to throw a line you can fish from the bank for the rest of the day( for which you must have an EA rod licence and your own tackle). Meet at the fishery lodge at 10am for morning sessions and 2pm for afternoon sessions. Each session will last approx 3 hours. Booking is essential as places are limited, call the fishery lodge to make a booking on 01629 540769. Improvers Fly Fishing Course

Now you have learned to cast a fly why not take one step further and learn to fish from a boat. On this course you will learn boat handling skills, reading the water, fishing on the drift with a drogue, fishing tactics and fly selection as well as further pointers on your casting. All equipment, boat hire and a qualified instructor will be provided for the course. After the course has finished you can continue to fish from your boat for the rest of the day ( for which you must have an EA rod licence and your own tackle) Meet at the fishery lodge at 2pm prompt to finish at approx 5pm. Booking is essential as places are limited, call the fishery lodge to make a booking on 01629 540769. The cost is £40 per person which must be paid at the time of booking. Facilities

A small selection of fishing tackle is available from the fishery office, along with light refreshments at the watersports centre and visitors centre resturant. A restaurant is open at the visitor centre with a full menu, while other members of the family would also enjoy the exhibtion, shopping, adventure playground, footpaths, cycle hire and watersports that are all available at Carsington.
